The Night We Reclaimed America

Great article by Frank Rich:

Dawn also brought the realization that we were at last emerging from an abusive relationship with our country’s 21st-century leaders. The festive scenes of liberation that Dick Cheney had once imagined for Iraq were finally taking place — in cities all over America.

Not many can say it as well as Frank Rich. This is a beautiful quote. Every day I read new articles about hopeful people not only all over our country, but all over the world. The world is already regaining its trust and admiration for America. I continue to be amazed at this historic time we are experiencing.

When we remove the nuclear missiles that we just placed in Poland pointing directly at Russia’s major cities, and then the Russians remove the Iskanders that they in turn just put at the border of Poland pointing at Germany and Europe in response, the player that matter in the world, may….may, begin to have a little respect for us again.

The morning talk shows this morning were full of serious-minded people like John Podesta and Rahm Emmanuel, and they were addressing solutions to problems that affect every American. They knew their stuff, too– Podesta effortlessly cited facts like the number of people working in the auto industry.

I had actually forgotten what’s it’s like to have a Presidential administration run by smart, competent public policy experts– as opposed to political hacks shilling for special interests.

OTOH, beware the last throes of the Bushies. They are trying to get away with a lot of last-minute shenanigans, like opening up 360,000 more acres to oil leasing in Utah. The Obama transition team already has a list of 200 Bush administration policies that will be reversed after January 20.

That was my reaction as well, Richard.

And Obama appears to be running a very smart and efficient transition as well, keeping an eye on the damage yet to be done by the Bushies, and getting ready to repair much damage already done. I am so encouraged.

Reverse 200 Bush policies? Now that’s what I want to hear and exactly what I had hoped for from Obama. We are going to be all right, after all!
