Socialism: Rx for American Woes?
Capitalism seems to be failing in all directions
“Fresh worries about the job market have emerged after weekly claims for unemployment benefits rose to a 16-year high rather than decreasing as had expected. The Labor Department has reported that new applications for jobless benefits rose to a seasonally adjusted 542,000 last week.”
“Nov. 20 (Bloomberg) — U.S. lawmakers deadlocked on a plan to bail out the Big Three automakers, leaving General Motors Corp. facing the prospect it could run out of cash before a new Congress can come to the rescue next year.”
“U.S. to Take Over AIG in $85 Billion Bailout; Central Banks Inject Cash as Credit Dries Up “
The leaders of our free nation are in a dizzying dance with catastrophe as the world watches aghast. Whether you hear the cheers of Iran or the woes of the U.K., America is on the verge of a bankruptcy that goes deeper than just our pocket books.
Warnings of over extension in credit, diving prices in home values across the nation crushing millions of home owners and the ridiculous and insincere moves of our President and congress to bring sanity back to America is collapsing the sound fundamentals of free market trade. But this bankruptcy has gone much further, implicating our political leaders and our nation’s rich top 2%. America suffers while wealthy CEO’s travel to Washington in personal jets begging for one bailout after another.
The” trickle down theory” is just not hacking it and while we wait to act, America is financially crumbling. But again, it goes deeper than that. Philosophically, many of us subscribe to the precepts of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” But little did we know that those in charge had “screwing all of us in the process” on their minds.
Some socialism has occurred without the populous approving. It has not yet, nor will it benefit us as a whole, until we get rid of the tyrants that got us into this position. As ridiculous as it may seem, America has been shanghaied and none of us have the guts to do anything about it.
Everyone should have a job. No baby should go hungry. Education and the good life should be available for all. But until you, yes you, can pull your head out of your ass, none of the good life that we send thousands of our boys and girls to their deaths in Iraq for is going to remain for our children to enjoy. Except maybe the children of those who make the bullets.
We are “A Nation of Whiners.” Just ask the GOP. We sit each day looking for others to come up with answers when they are right in front of us. You and I wait to see a better day without putting any effort forward to make it happen. We sit twitting our thumbs, mistaking that as productive action instead of firing those who are now enslaving us as peasants. We are watching ourselves slowly take on the “New World” role as mindless peons while the rich and insanely powerful take control.
We bellyache about those in power, but don’t have the will or the guts to do anything about it. What happened to the guy named Harry who said he was mad and wasn’t going to take it any more? He has been replaced by the senseless guy named “Joe the Plumber” and have we as a nation become a bunch of whit less twits who can’t even tie his own shoes let alone fire those who are killing us?
Maybe socialism is preferable to the rotted mess capitalism has placed us in. We are about to fulfill the prophecy of Russia’s Nikita Khrushchev, who back in the 1960’s said “We will bury you. Of course, we will not bury you with a shovel. Your own working class will bury you”. We the working class, have given up our stake in this great nation. There is virtually no longer a middle class and we willingly indentured ourselves in the process.
Capitalism. It’s becoming less appealing now, as we who once had a pretty descent paycheck form a line with food stamps in hand. Not as appealing as we watch those who we elected, dehumanize us with torture, illegal wire tapping and not respond to the needs of our brothers and sisters such as the Katrina disaster in New Orleans.
We have made ourselves paupers while knowingly over extending ourselves with devastating credit cards. We continue to bailout the wealthy, ignore the wrong doings of those who swore to protect our nation and pretend tomorrow will be better without any effort of our own. This has become our American dream.

Capitalism is destroying the planet — but if you mention that to anyone, they automatically assume that you are a socialist or communist. It’s time to find a new path, a new system.
Nice post, K. Any relationship to Celeste Prince?

You’re argument would be at least a little convincing if the European socialist workers paradises were not suffering. But their unemployment and GDP numbers aren’t any better than ours.

Not sure Jen, but I’ll bet with a last name of Prince, she has to be quite a nice gal.

What really is true about Capitalism, is that we have been taught that it came from God. The GOP hijacked it, placed Ronald Reagans name on it and low and behold 23% of our nation still loves it. The same as Pres. Bush’s ratings. Hmmmm… lets see 2% have all of the money and you take that from 23…. that equals 21. Wow 21% of Americans love Capitlism while the other 2% wollow in their riches. When are the other 77% going to wake up?
