If you have not had your head buried in the sand you have likely noticed that Chris Buttars has been going all out to win the “ignorant homophobe of the decade” award. He is a veritable quote mine:

In interviews, Buttars says that gays and lesbians are the biggest threat to America and… are inherently amoral
They are likely all atheists too. And liberals. And tree hugging commie socialists. And Satan worshipers.
“They’re mean. They want to talk about being nice. They’re the meanest buggers I have ever seen.”
And just seconds later, Buttars draws a comparison between some gays and radical Muslims.
“It’s just like the Muslims. Muslims are good people and their religion is anti-war. But it’s been taken over by the radical side.”
I guess gays are good people and anti-war but the radical gays took over?
(This really begs the question of if part of the definition of “good” is “anti-war” and if so does that mean the radicals have taken over America as we are in two of them? Asking for too much logic? Sorry…)
“Homosexuality will always be a sexual perversion. And you say that around here now and everybody goes nuts. But I don’t care.”
Ok maybe I jumped to a conclusion on the “good people” thing.
“What is the morals of a gay person? You can’t answer that because anything goes.”
Does he have anything to back this up or is he just pulling this stuff out of his ass?
The senator, who previously talked about running a bill to overturn Salt Lake City’s newly minted ordinances, said his stance changed after the LDS Church announced its support last week of the capital’s plan to protect gay and transgender people from discrimination in housing and employment.
In the 2009 Legislature, Buttars was among the most vociferous foes of the Common Ground Initiative, a failed collection of gay-rights bills, which included employment and housing safeguards for all gay and transgender Utahns.
Anyone question who is calling the shots here?

Hi Shane…Shane…..Shane…Sha…Sh,
Thanks for this…this…thi..th.
When Buttars says, ““What is the morals of a gay person? You can’t answer that because anything goes.” He is referring to his oft explained immutable truth which is based upon the premise that morals come from religion, ergo without religion as a guide, there cannot be morality.
I know this because I have listened to hours of Buttars floor speeches. Have a listen to this OneUtah classic that reverberated around the world.
Is there an echo in here?

Natch, it is an echo chamber after all.
Sadly if we would stop posting about the church and legislature they would go away…
(damn it i really need an eye roll emoticon!)

Utah ought to be grateful for Chris Buttars, and his unique insights into homosexuality and Islam– the number one and number two threats to America. No one else has his perspective, he’s the only one.

And so it goes.
Just the other day I was reading a blog comment somewhere in which a good LDS person was asking why “you all” (the other commenters to the blog) always have to bring religion into Utah politics.
I wonder.
And now the question has to be asked: Can/will a member in good standing ever disagree with a political position the LDS church takes?

I think Buttars wishes he hadn’t been tagged with that nasty last name.
The old horndog.

Apparently I really hit a nerve with a couple of you, that kicks ass!
What is really interesting is how the Church is also apparently able to call the shots among GLBT community. A year ago the GLBT were crying foul for the church getting involved in politics and now that the Church sides with the GLBT community suddenly there is a halleluiah chorus being heard from the GLBT community for the church making their statement. Where is the moral outrage from the GLBT that the Church is once again meddling in politics? Apparently Buttars isn’t the only one swayed by the Church.
Now on a personal note, Shane thanks again for the humor. A statement like this coming from you is just damn funny. “Does he have anything to back this up or is he just pulling this stuff out of his ass?” 43% 43% 43% (Its that damn echo again)

Yep that is it. I would never have posted this if it weren’t for you.
…in fact the universe revolves around your very presence. No really, it does. Little known fact.

That’s it????? That’s all you’ve got??? Come on Shane I know you can do better than I that. Find the hate that I know is within you and rise to the occasion.
#9 by shane on November 19, 2009 - 9:18 pm
Mike, I hate to break it to you, but you have completely misread the situation. I don’t mind that you project, and I don’t mind that you have your views about what I have said or what I do here, as wrong as they are.
I am sorry the “intertubes” don’t have the same capability to display body language or attitudes as real life does, but I suspect it doesn’t matter, you still wouldn’t get it. Its ok, it isn’t your fault….

Mike,
You; completely misread that response. When you swim in a tank of sharks, you have to learn how not to look like food.

Folks, I haven’t been keeping up with OneUtah lately. Has Mike accepted my invitation to become a OneUtah author?
If he has, I missed it. I wonder what the problem is?
#12 by Richard Warnick on November 20, 2009 - 11:54 am
The toast always lands Buttars-side down. From Think Progress: Utah lawmaker claims he doesn’t ‘mind’ gays, but ‘I don’t want ‘em stuffing it down my throat all the time.’

Hahahaha! Oh, Rich, I can’t stop laughing.
#14 by shane on November 20, 2009 - 3:45 pm
Not all the time? Just when he is sexually frustrated with his sad loveless marriage?
#15 by mike on November 20, 2009 - 7:10 pm
Cliff ,
Whoa dude you haven’t been keeping up with OneUtah lately? Then you better do some house cleaning because there was some asshole on OneUtah yesterday who was using your name and suggesting to people who disagreed with him to go kill themselves. Weird huh?
As far as your invitation, I just don’t think I’d fit into the left vs. right motif of your blog. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it; I just have zero confidence or conviction in either side of the political machine. (Can you really blame me?) As the poet and damn fine bass player Gordon Sumner once postulated “There is no political solution to our troubled evolution.”
So where does that leave me? Documenting the wreckage and as the poet and philosopher (that’s one step higher than poet and bass player) Jim Morrison once said “I’m gonna get my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.”

Mike,
I shall call you marshmellow from here on out.
Your position inspired a great man once to say,
No worries, we’ll take over from here.
#17 by mike on November 20, 2009 - 10:04 pm
Touché Cliff,
However I didn’t say I was neutral only that I hated both sides equally. As far as having a reserved spot in the hottest place in hell when you get there I’ll be the one wearing the hat that says “Cliff warned me.”

Our shadows taller than our soul.”

I see you woke up from your nap, but apparently the sleep did you little good.
Will you please put your above comment in English, so we all might understand what the dang you are saying?
