Could Alaskans Elect a Convicted Felon?

Friday, October 31st, 2008

‘There are strange things done in the midnight sun . . .’
The New York Times reports that Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens returned home to a hero’s welcome. Hundreds of supporters cheered while Stevens vowed to appeal his felony convictions and asked voters to re-elect him.
Top Republicans including John McCain and Sarah Palin have called [...]

Election memories

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

When I was a child, election night was a strange mystery. My parents disappeared soon after dinner and didn’t return until they done the arcane process of voting. It simply happened.
The first election of which I have any memories was 1976. I thought Jimmy Carter’s smile was too broad and [...]

This is What is Happening

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

The republicans are going to throw a temper tantrum (again) after the election if things don’t go enough in their favor. They are going to shout about Acorns and Voter Fraud. I know this for sure because John McCain brought it up in the last debate with Obama. He said the democrats were going to [...]

A Positive Message for America - A Blueprint for Change

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Tonight Barack Obama spent 30 minutes on television to tell us what we can expect when he is elected. His message tonight was not about McCain or Palin, nor about any of the distractions that amount to not much more than static. His message tonight was about us. About jobs, health care, [...]

What’s all this about Rashid Khalidi?

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

The Wall Street Journal published a press release from the Republican National Committee, providing a run-down and bio information about Khalidi. The intent is clearly to make Obama look anti-Israel by his association with Khalidi.
However, to quote Rachel Maddow, this is the old ‘I’m rubber and you’re glue . . .’ dilemma. Turns [...]

McCain May Lose Arizona

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

A new poll from Arizona State University suggests that an Obama win is not at all out of the question. The numbers: McCain 46%, Obama 44%, within the ±3% margin of error. The previous ASU poll from a month ago put McCain up 45%-38%.

Taking Healthcare Seriously

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I’ve been pretty open that I think the US should adopt a single payer plan. I’d probably run it at the state level (similar to Canada’s system which is administered at the Provincial level), but I think at some point the US will adopt a single payer system that pays for health care while [...]

Closing Arguments

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

I heard a bit of Biden’s speech today. He said (to paraphrase) we can no longer be a red country and a blue country. We are one nation, under God, indivisible. Get up and take back this country we love. This summarizes the final message from Obama/Biden. The desire is to [...]

If You Call Obama Socialist You Are Either Uninformed or Just Mean

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

It kills me the way people are throwing around the ‘S’ word. Socialism is a well defined system, and we are no where close to it. One could also study a bit about tax policy, unless one prefers to make it up as they go along.
Being Stupid is a Choice

In the final 15 [...]

Trouble in Paradise

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Apparently there is trouble between the McCain and Palin camps. According to CNN:
[A] McCain source says she appears to be looking out for herself more than the McCain campaign.
“She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone,” this McCain adviser said. “She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, [...]
