Please thank Tim in a comment on this post. And please also donate whatever you can to his legal defense.
Yesterday, in a brave act of civil disobedience, Tim DeChristopher threw a Monkey Wrench into one of the Bush Administration’s parting shots at environmentalist and the American people.
Please ask everyone you know to register their [...]

I have been an environmentalist for most of my life. I have marched, held signs, written letters and spoken to my Congressman. I have built trails and removed invasive species in National Parks. I have educated friends on climate change and donated to a dozen different groups. Countless others have done [...]

With a plot that would have done old Ed Abbey proud, a college student managed single-handedly to disrupt the BLM oil and gas lease auction sufficiently to prevent some parcels from being sold at all, and running up the prices for others.
An act of civil disobedience without any destruction being done. Clever and well-executed.

Had this been published more recently, it would have read differently since Conservatives no longer rule and probably never will again. This book explains why conservatism is in practice, worse than communist dictatorships.
From the demolition of the EPA to 400 billion per year passed off to private contractors — from Enron to the massive [...]

An article in the Web edition of Vanity Fair has forced me to confront a theory I’ve been actively avoiding. I’ve tried to assume that the Bush administration employed torture against terrorist suspects because they didn’t know any better. All the experts will tell you that torture methods, from the Spanish Inquisition to [...]

A few months ago a U.S. District Court judge ruled that
. . . vice president Dick Cheney must turn over all documents prepared by him, or his office, in relation to his duties as vice president, to the National Archives after his term as VP has ended.
A lawsuit, launched by Citizens for Responsibility and [...]

Via Raw Story:
Outgoing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has acknowledged that she was responsible for the security failures that made possible the 9/11 attacks. However, she did so only fleetingly and in a backhanded manner before returning to justifications of her actions.
In a CNN “exit interview” with CNN’s Zain Verjee broadcast today, Rice conceded [...]

The Web game “Sock and Awe” gives players a chance to succeed where Muntadhar al-Zaidi failed. Of course you get some advantages al-Zaidi didn’t have– in the game you get a full 30 seconds and an unlimited number of shoes. Even better, security guards don’t beat you up and take you to jail.
The [...]

In the continuing saga of the Project Legacy/Victory Lap interviews, Cheney in an interview may have inadvertently (though he appeared to be proud of it) admitted to committing a war crime — a crime for which the United States has executed criminals in the past. Rachel Maddow covers it:

BUSH LETS U.S. SPY ON CALLERS WITHOUT COURTS, that was the New York Times headline Dec. 16, 2005. It was three years ago today that we began learning about this illegal NSA program.
Rachel Maddow last night had the first television interview with NSA whistleblower Thomas Tamm. Tamm was a Justice Department official and [...]

BAGHDAD — Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets Monday to demand the release of a reporter who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush in anger at U.S. policies, as support for the act and the journalist flowed in from across the Arab world.
Is anyone [...]
