Via Raw Story:
Outgoing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has acknowledged that she was responsible for the security failures that made possible the 9/11 attacks. However, she did so only fleetingly and in a backhanded manner before returning to justifications of her actions.
In a CNN “exit interview” with CNN’s Zain Verjee broadcast today, Rice conceded [...]

During a surprise visit to Iraq today, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced that Britain will cease all military operations by May 31, 2009, and that all British troops and equipment will be out of the country in approximately two months after that. That will leave the United States as the only remaining foreign [...]

The Web game “Sock and Awe” gives players a chance to succeed where Muntadhar al-Zaidi failed. Of course you get some advantages al-Zaidi didn’t have– in the game you get a full 30 seconds and an unlimited number of shoes. Even better, security guards don’t beat you up and take you to jail.
The [...]

In the continuing saga of the Project Legacy/Victory Lap interviews, Cheney in an interview may have inadvertently (though he appeared to be proud of it) admitted to committing a war crime — a crime for which the United States has executed criminals in the past. Rachel Maddow covers it:

General Ray Odierno to the contrary notwithstanding, when President Obama takes office as the commander in chief of our military, you can count on an Iraq withdrawal. It’s the right thing to do, and it’s what everybody wants, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Of course polls in [...]

BUSH LETS U.S. SPY ON CALLERS WITHOUT COURTS, that was the New York Times headline Dec. 16, 2005. It was three years ago today that we began learning about this illegal NSA program.
Rachel Maddow last night had the first television interview with NSA whistleblower Thomas Tamm. Tamm was a Justice Department official and [...]

Arabs Across Middle East Hail Shoe-Hurling Journalist As Hero
BAGHDAD — Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets Monday to demand the release of a reporter who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush in anger at U.S. policies, as support for the act and the journalist flowed in from across the Arab world.
Is anyone [...]

Think again.
It turns out that George Bush, determined to the end to do as much damage as possible before leaving office, created a giant loophole for executive compensation for companies receiving bailout funds.
From the Washington Post:
Congress wanted to guarantee that the $700 billion financial bailout would limit the eye-popping pay of Wall Street executives, so [...]

Thanks to George Bush, we all know more about Arab culture than we ever wanted.
As my Iranian neighbor reminded me, hitting someone with your shoe is the gravest insult one can give and thus wholly appropriate for Bush.
This Iraqi speaks for most Americans, Arabs AND Muslims alike. Heck most of the world hates this [...]

President Bush’s lame duck victory lap in Baghdad today was marred somewhat by a courageous Iraqi journalist, Muthathar al Zaidi. Zaidi threw both his shoes at Bush during a press conference. The New York Times notes that the first shoe “narrowly missed” and the second shoe also missed, as Bush dodged. “This is [...]

Peggy Noonan’s typically fatuous WSJ opinion piece deserves an answer. President Bush gets no credit for keeping anyone safe. Instead, he failed to prevent the worst terrorist attack in history and then proceeded to use fear of terrorism for political gain. That’s his legacy.
President Bush and his best friend in the world
Matthew [...]
