Karl Rove is making the rounds to sell his new book, revising history every time he appears on TV. This morning, it was “Meet The Press” with Tom Brokaw. How many blatant lies can you tell before you stop getting invited on talk shows?
“[T]he suggestion that somehow or another the administration had as its policy, ‘We’re going to go in to Iraq and take their resources and pay for the war’ is not accurate,” Rove told Brokaw.
In reality, in 2003 both White House press secretary Ari Fleischer and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz said exactly that, on the record. And the Coalition Provisional Authority that the U.S. set up in Baghdad spent Iraqi oil revenues to pay for the occupation.
This morning Karl Rove also strongly implied, three times without being contradicted by Brokaw, that the U.N. Security Council authorized the invasion of Iraq. They did not. In fact, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan declared the invasion a breach of the U.N. Charter because there was no such authorization.

Rove is the king of spin. And as I was watching this morning, in addition to the lies you pointed out, Rich, I was wondering just why this guy was on a Sunday talk show anyway. Has Meet The Press just become another Jay Leno show where people go to hawk their latest book or movie? I can’t say I was pleased with Brokaw this morning either.

I’m sure Karl Rove gets a big kick out of being able to go on television and lie instead of showing up for his damn subpoena, but it is beyond belief he is allowed to do that. It is damaging our society to let these types go on public forums like MTP; they should be ashamed!

I’m told the Innuit have numerous words for snow.
Our society could have twice that number describing shit, but you can see why that would trigger the squeemisness in us. Needless to say ‘Turdblossom’ did squeeze by.
